Inlaid sundial - The 4 Winds - 75 x 69 cm - Botticino marble, Verona red marble and polychrome marble - Mid-20th century

A Botticino marble sundial, with two medallions (Sun and Moon) in Verona Red Marble inlaid on the sides. On the upper central part there is a beautiful wind rose in polychrome marbles, with the hole for the gnomon. On the four main cardinal directions of the compass rose are the respective winds, represented by the face of Aeolus, god of the wind, with their corresponding names. This sundial used to be exposed facings South, starting from summer solstice (21st June) . This item comes from Italy, precisely from the town of Venice, and was part of the garden of a local villa. High-quality item with remarkable marble workmanship. This lot is one of a kind, hard to find and exclusive. Special sundial for its shape and peculiar decorations. Wonderful marble grain.
