A great rarity of the Qajar silver series, with only three examples presently recorded. CoinVarieties notes this as a rare one-year type, struck in an imposing medallic format far larger than a conventional crown, at approximately 46.05g of .900 fine silver and 50.3mm. Its Millennia Collection provenance, noted on the NGC holder, further enhances its pedigree and desirability.
This MS62 example displays softly lustrous silver surfaces with delicate champagne, lilac and pale steel-grey toning. The portrait of Nasir al-Din Shah is finely rendered, his high Qajar hat and sweeping moustache giving the coin a commanding courtly presence, while the reverse offers a beautifully balanced composition of Persian calligraphy, royal crown, laurel and oak, and the Lion and Sun emblem. A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most impressive and elusive silver Tomans of nineteenth-century Persia.
