Islamic Marble Funerary stele, 83 x 40 x 9,5 cm. Exhibited at Ifergan Museum

Tabular stele with longer vertical sides. It is inscribed with a pointed horseshoe arch. The entire surface is carved with vegetal and floral ornamentation on the vertical bands, in the spandrels and around the arch. On each of the spandrels there is an anepigraphic circular rose window. The inscription is distributed in two horizontal bands, one at the top and the other at the bottom, on the lowered surface inside the arch, 10 lines, and in two vertical bands that frame the central cartouche below the arch. The script used is cursive or naskhi with diacritical dots. It contains the epitaph of a man who died on Monday the 15th of ŷumādà l-ājira in the year hegira 606, corresponding to 15 December 1209 AD. The form of the funerary inscription is composed and arranged as follows: It begins in the upper horizontal band with a Qur'anic quotation (Q. IV, 79/81) followed by the risāla. It continues, inside the arch and the central cartouche, with the name of the deceased, his parentage (nasab) , his kunya, nisba and titles, followed by eulogies in his favour. In the lower horizontal band is placed the mention of the death, and in the vertical bands, which frame the central cartouche below the arch, the date on which the death took place is consigned, followed by an exit eulogy as a colophon, which is distributed between the ginal of the right vertical band and the beginning of the lower horizontal one.
