[ translate ]

\Artist: Italian School - Late 17th Century oil on canvas
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 116_87_116_cm
A fascinating and skillfully painted late 17th (possibly early 18th) Century Italian School oil on canvas depicting Saint Sebastian with cherub. The work is framed in a later 19th frame which was possibly made to fit the piece and appears to have been restored and re-lined around 50 years ago . From a private collection from Norfolk and previously Oxford. The piece of art could well have been undertaken by a pupil to a master . The original canvas has had a waxed -lined relining and has been exposed at some stage to probably establish what exactly was used to do the relining. There are some indications of re-painting to the cherub , but these are not obvious to the naked eye in any way, and the piece was clearly re-varnished and the paint shows only feint areas of craquelure, and is in remarkably good condition . The frame appears to have had touched in areas to three sides but only one small one now darkened area to the right side. There two small areas of damage to the tips of the top left and and bottom left hand corner of the frame. It is likely that the original stretcher was also renewed and overall this superb large work is one for the collector. Note the costs of postage and only to the UK and mainland Europe where the item will be shipped with professional standard boxing and packed well due to it's size and weight. Buyers from UK are welcome to collect free of charge.
