This sculpture follows the models of Pietro Simoni Pietro da Barga, a sculptor active from 1574 - 88 in Florence.
An example is the bronze "Hercules" dated circa 1576, kept in the Metropolitan Museum in New York, reference number 64.101.1462, in which even the model used has great similarity to this Vulcan.
