\Artist: Italian school of the XVII-XVIII Century
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 93_70_1_cm
17th or 18th Century masterly executed portrayal of the education of the Virgin Mary. Italian school, Milan. Saint Anne teaches the young Virgin Mary to read, watched over by Saint Joachim. It shows Anne´s content, mature and realistic face in contrast with the fragile sweetness and lighten up presentation of the Virgin at the moment when she understands her teachings looking towards God with expression of fulfilment, emotion and love. Counterreformation iconography, painted by Rubens, Roelas and even Murillo. The well executed chiaroscuro style used here isolates the subjects from the rest of things, thus creating an intimate portrait of the sacred family which tends to trigger a nurturing response in the viewer, who can't help but feel moved in a very human way. Good condition. Ancient restorations (ear St. Joachim, neck Virgin Mary) ,
