Description: Very fine hip portrait of Johann Gottfried von Meiern against a cross-hatched background in a profiled rectangle, cranked at the top; stone window frame on a console balustrade; inscribed "NE INVTILIS VIXISSE VIDEAR" [So that I do not seem to have lived in vain] in the frame at the top. In the parapet in cartouche frame five-line Latin legend "IOANNES GODOFREDVS DE MEIERN, / I[uris]C[onsul]T[us,] AVGVSTISS[imo] MAGNAE BRITANN[iae] REGI ET | ELECT[ori] BR[unsvico-] LVNEB[urgensi] A CVRIALIVM CAVSARVM / CONSILIIS ET ARCHIVI PRAEPOS[itus,] / NAT[us] BARVTHI FRANC[oniae] CAL[endis] MAI[is] MDCXCII." Below the legend panel a garland formed from documents and bundled pens. - In front of the parapet two putti: on the left sitting on or amidst bundles of documents, holding an open book with the title "Acta Pacis / Westphalicae" on his lap, on the right standing with a doctor's hat, holding a document with the inscription "COMITIVM" under his arm, right hand on a standing coat of arms. Signed at the bottom of the picture: "G[erhard] J[ustus] Arenhold delin. / M[artini] Bernigeroth[i] fil[ius] [= Johann Martin Bernigeroth] sc. Lips[iae]". | Watermark: Coat of arms

Beschreibung: Sehr schönes Hüftbildnis des Johann Gottfried von Meiern vor Kreuzschraffur-Hintergrund in profiliertem, oben verkröpftem Rechteck; Steinfensterrahmen auf einer Konsolbrüstung; im Rahmen oben bezeichnet mit "NE INVTILIS VIXISSE VIDEAR" [Damit ich nicht unnütz gelebt zu haben scheine]. In der Brüstung in Kartuschenrahmen fünfzeilige lateinische Legende "IOANNES GODOFREDVS DE MEIERN, / I[uris]C[onsul]T[us,] AVGVSTISS[imo] MAGNAE BRITANN[iae] REGI ET | ELECT[ori] BR[unsvico-] LVNEB[urgensi] A CVRIALIVM CAVSARVM / CONSILIIS ET ARCHIVI PRAEPOS[itus,] / NAT[us] BARVTHI FRANC[oniae] CAL[endis] MAI[is] MDCXCII." Unter der Legendentafel eine aus Urkunden und gebündelten Schreibfedern gebildete Girlande. - Vor der Brüstung zwei Putti: links sitzend auf bzw. inmitten geschnürter Aktenbündel, auf dem Schoß aufgeschlagenes Buch mit Titel "Acta Pacis / Westphalicae" haltend, rechts stehend mit Doktorhut, unter dem Arm Urkunde mit Aufschrift "COMITIVM" haltend, rechte Hand auf stehendem Wappenschild.
