Johann Jacob Bennetter (1822-1904). As a young man, he himself went to sea for 15 years; he was a sailor and helmsman before completing an apprenticeship as a painter. He studied in The Hague with Louis Meijer and studied in Paris in the mid-19th century with Theodore Gudin and took part in exhibitions at the Paris Salon. He returned to Norway and founded, among other things, a painting school in Stavanger.Show more
