As the name implies, the concept for this brand was to sell whiskey by the individual barrel that had been specially selected for its quality and flavor. When introduced, the Distillery began by producing only ten barrels per day, not anticipating that demand would quickly rise to more than 20 times that production level. The Jack Daniel Distillery states that less than five-tenths of one percent of their whiskey is deemed worthy of the Single Barrel distinction. The barrels selected typically come from the upper floors of the aging house due to more drastic temperature changes that give the whiskey inside a deeper amber color and more variable flavor.
