Jacop Kornerup, Danish 1825-1913- Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, wearing a fur hat; oil on canvas, signed and dated 'J. Kornerup 1865' (lower left), signed, dated, and indistinctly inscribed 'Jens Klobker / Roskilde 1865 / J. Kornerup p' on the reverse of the upper stretcher bar, 36.5 x 27.4 cm. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Kornerup was a Danish painter and archaeologist, with a particular interest in the restoration of historic buildings throughout Denmark. He became one of the central figures in the movement to restore medieval frescoes in churches which had been whitewashed during the Reformation, and was a key advisory figure during the restoration of Roskilde Cathedral.
