Jacopo Negretti, called Palma il Giovane, Italian c.1550-1628- Studies of a muscular man bending diagonally, and standing in profile to the left; pen and black ink on laid paper, bears inscription 'Palma' (on the card mount lower centre), bears Jonathan Richardson Sr's shelfmark 'C. C. 49' (Lugt 2983) verso of mount, bears number '258' verso of mount, 7.5 x 13.2 cm. Provenance: Collection of Jonathan Richardson Sr (1665-1745) (Lugt 2983); The estate of the late designer Anthony Powell. Note: The present work can be compared on stylistic grounds to S. R. Mason, 'Palma il Giovane.L'opera completa', p.193, no.14 and p.291, no.251. Jonathan Richardson Sr was a London based portrait painter and collector of drawings and prints.
