"La Rétameuse", one of the "Twelve Etchings from Nature", also called "The French Set", 1858. Etching on laid paper watermarked "9 6", signed in the plate lower right, published in London by J. A. Whistler at 62 Sloane Street and in Paris at Imprimerie Delâtre, Rue St. Jacques 171, lettered "Imp. Delâtre, Rue St Jacques 171" lower left, pencil inscriptions in lower margin, matted and framed under glass, overall 19 ¾" x 14 ½". Catalog raisonne Kennedy edition II/II.

Half-length full-face study of a Frenchwoman, seated with hands clasped on her lap, wearing a large soft black cap and with a spoon tucked into her waistband.

Condition: Slight mat burn around image adhesive to perimeter verso, easily removable though may stain verso edges.
