We are grateful to Ursula Härting for suggesting the attribution after examining the present painting in the original. Her written communication, dated 24 August 2026, accompanies this lot. She dates this work to around 1624.

The verso of the panel is inscribed with the monogram of the panel maker Guilliam Aertssen (1579–1638) in use from circa 1590 to circa 1618 and is additionally stamped with his mark dating from 1618 to 1638. As Aertssen introduced this mark in 1618 and ceased using his inscribed monogram shortly after, this panel was therefore almost certainly produced around 1620. The verso of the panel is also branded with the Antwerp coat-of-arms dating from 1620 to 1638.

The present composition relates to a presumably lost work by Peter Paul Rubens from circa 1613–1614 (op. cit. McGrath, 2025, no.115).
