Japanese Satsuma Censer, Meiji
A Japanese Satsuma censer from the Meiji period. The censor depicts a scene with monkeys attacking an octopus on one side and a landscape scene with 8 children playing and an older figure in the central foreground on the other. The lid features an oni finial with geometric designs around the borders. The piece has a signed shield on one side and a 2 character signature on the other.
Dimensions are: 13 inches tall X 9 inches wide, 33.02 cm X 22.86 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: There is a glaze chip to one of the oni’s horns, and crazing throughout.
