Jean Carzou, pseudonym of Karnik Zouloumian, born in Aleppo (Syria) on January 1, 1907, and died in Marsac-sur-l'Isle (Dordogne) on August 12, 2000, is a painter, lithographer, engraver (etching, -sèche) and French decorator of Armenian origin.

“What did Carzou bring? One writing and one style at a time. Extensive, woven, spun writing, where the skilful mixture of straight lines and arabesques, fruit of the sureness of the drawing, contributes to the effects of perspective as well as to the general composition of the work, as well as to the mystery most often sought by the painter ". We will remember with Patrick-F. Barrer that "voluntarily on the fringes of the great pictorial movements, Jean Carzou, while perfectly inscribing his work in an era of which he was a witness, knew how to invent, impose and preserve a most particular style". Carzou thus remains "among the outstanding artists of our time: he has translated better than anyone else the concerns, the dangers, the grandiose and distressing achievements but, that is his originality, he knew how to express it with poetry".
