Jimi Hendrix Experience Signatures

[ translate ]

Three individual oversized 8.25 x 6.5 lined sheets of stationery paper, containing signatures and handwritten birthdate notations by each member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Each band member has signed in blue ballpoint: Jimi Hendrix has written, "Love, Love, Love, Jimi Hendrix, November 27, 1945, Sagittarius"; Mitch Mitchell has written, "Love, Mitch, XXX, Born London, 9. 7. 46"; and Noel Redding has written, "Noel David Redding, born in Folkestone, Kent, England, on 25th December 1945." Each page is dated in the lower right corner, "3. 1. 68." The autographed notes were obtained on 3 January 1968, by a female Swedish music fan who followed various musical groups around Gothenburg, Sweden in the late 1960s. In overall fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.

In a rare moment, clearly prompted by the female fan, all three band members have written out their individual dates of birth. Worth noting, Hendrixâ€â„¢s actual birth date is November 27, 1942, though he has elected to write the year as â€Ëœ1945,â€â„¢ thus giving the appearance of him being slightly younger to the female fan. It was not uncommon for Hendrix to exaggerate his birth year, although it is quite unusual to have documented proof of this in Hendrixâ€â„¢s actual hand. Plus, it appears the female fan has also urged the three musicians to add their places of birth, which Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding have done. Rather than follow suit, Hendrix has chosen a more personal approach by penning, â€Å“Sagittarius,â€Â his zodiac sign.

These autographs were obtained during a rather tumultuous time in the life of Jimi Hendrix. Just weeks following the release of their second studio album, â€ËœAxis Bold As Love,â€â„¢ Hendrix and the band traveled to Gothenburg for a brief four-date tour of Sweden and Denmark. On January 3, 1968, after landing at Torslanda airport, the three musicians checked into the Hotel Opalen and, later that same evening, ventured out to a local night club, Klubb Karl. The three musicians eventually returning to the hotel at approximately 2 a.m. At approximately 4 a.m. on January 4th, a guest staying on the floor below complained to Per Magnusson, the hotel's night receptionist, about a disturbance in the room above. When Magnusson let himself into the room, the receptionist discovered Hendrix lying on the bed in a pool of blood, with the room in devastation after a violent rampage. The guitarist had broken the window and injured his right hand while wrecking the room in an apparent drug-and-booze filled fury.

After police arrived on the scene, Hendrix was arrested and transported to the hospital for treatment of his injured hand. Hendrix was charged with criminal damage, and local authorities placed him under a travel ban, forcing him to report to the police station every day at 2 p.m. for the next two weeks. On January 16, 1968, Hendrix appeared in court, receiving a fine of 3,200 Swedish Crowns. Hendrixâ€â„¢ explanation for the incident was that someone had spiked his drink with LSD. These autographed notes were obtained from inside Hendrixâ€â„¢ hotel room, in the hours leading up to his infamous outburst. Includes four modern prints of Polaroids from that night, comprising of a group shot and one of each band member. A truly unique and important set of Jimi Hendrix Experience handwritten and autographed notes captured during a peak period of the legendary bandâ€â„¢s brief time together.
