Christie’s a l’honneur de présenter deux œuvres de Joaquín Torres-García proposées pour la première fois en vente publique. L’année 1943 est clé puisqu’elle marque l’ouverture du Taller Torres-García à Montevideo, école-atelier fondée par le peintre afin d’y enseigner son esthétique. À cette époque, il s’affranchit du quadrillage strict de ses compositions abstraites antérieures. En conservant les contours marqués définissant les formes dans des compositions plus libres, Arte constructivo (lot 24) et Estructura con fondo azul (lot 25) témoignent de l’évolution de l’art de Torres-García vers la maturité.

Christie’s is honored to present two works by Joaquín Torres-García, each offered at auction for the first time. The year of 1943 was a turning point for the artist, who had opened the Taller Torres-García in Montevideo, a school workshop intended to spread his aesthetic philosophy. During this time, he breaks away from the grid format of his earlier abstract compositions. By continuing to rely on strong outlines to define shapes in freer compositions, Arte constructivo (lot 24) and Estructura con fondo azul (lot 25) illustrate the evolution of Torres-García’s art towards its maturity.
