A Russian gilt bronze, crystal and cobalt glass eighteen-light chandelier after model by Johann Zech for the new study at the Pavlovsk Palace. The cobalt blue glass vase-form corona issuing abundant ormolu rushes, each hung with cut glass drops, above two circular frames issuing scrolling branches terminating in cobalt blue glass drip pans, fitted for electricity, stars and cut glass prisms, all hung with pendant drops, terminating in a large pine cone. St. Petersburg, 20th century. H. 170 cm. Diam. 95 cm.

In the late 18th century, the German born Johann Zech was called by Tsaritsa Catherine the Great of Russia to come to St. Petersburg, where he started his workshop. There he received many commissions from the Imperial family and was responsible for nearly all the chandeliers made for the Pavlovsk Palace outside St. Petersburg and other Imperial palaces.
