Alhed og Johannes Larsens artist's home and garden on Møllebakken in Kerteminde served as an inspiring artistic meeting place and free space in the first decades of the 20th century. The garden and villa on Møllebakken can be considered a “gesamtkunstwerk” with plants, animals and buildings that the artists have developed and have been enriched by over the years. In the surrounding landscape there are several mills and the mill, Svanemøllen, was located on the land Johannes Larsen inherited from his parents. The shape of the mill is repeated in the layout of the fountain, just as there is an actual millstone down in the fountain.
