Johannes Vinkeles (1783 - 1803/1823), after Reinier Vinkeles after Ferdinand Bol, 'Portrait of Michiel Adriaensz. de Ruyter (1607-1676), with a servant'
Johannes Vinkeles (1783 - 1803/1823), after Reinier Vinkeles after Ferdinand Bol, 'Portrait of Michiel Adriaensz. de Ruyter (1607-1676), with a servant'
Verso: annotated in pen and ink ‘M.A. de Ruijter L. Admiraal van Holland etc.’ ‘J. Vinkeles del: naar het originele schilderije van F. Bol’. The drawing on the balustrade reads ‘Bol.’; this is a copy of a drawing by Johannes father Reinier Vinkeles (1741-1816). This latter drawing formed the blueprint for an etching with the same representation (including placement of Bol’s signature) published by Johannes Allart (1754-1816), probably between 1773 - 1811. The portrait of De Ruijter painted by Ferdinand Bol, which served as an example for the drawing, is now in the collection of the Maritime Museum Zeeland; bottom of the etching it reads 'naar het famielje pourtrait berustende by (= in the collection of) mev. de weduwe Elias’ (Machtelina Henriëtta Elias de Wilhem), the owner of the painting at the time the etching was published.
Gouache, 11 x 9,3 cm (frame of (Faux) turtle).
