V. 1499Covers 20,5x14,3 cm; leaf size 19,7 x 13,5 cm. 208 [of 210] unn lvs. 18th-century calf with gilt-tooled spine with 5 raised bands and 2 morocco labels and 4 gilt-decorated compartments. Marbled endpapers. Printed in two columns, two types: a very small (Pr type 3) and a larger text-type (Pr type 2) , 53 lines to the page. Minuscules for initials. Editio princeps, edited by Jodocus Badius Ascensius. First print of the second press of Klein (Lyon press 35) . The work is also known as Sermones de Mortuis and contains 98 funeral sermons, divided into 7 Distinctiones. Johannes Gorini di Coppo, de Sancto Geminiano, [c. 1260-c. 1330] , Dominician who preached in Siena, is also the author of "Liber de exemplis et similitudinibus rerum" and the "Disputatio Christi et latronis de finali poenitentia". The "Speculum Vitae Christi" of Saint Bonaventura is sometimes ascribed to him. Provenance: partly crossed out ex-libris on leaf a2 of a Dyon-convent in ink (Ex Bibliotheca . . . . . . . Divionensium) . Signatures: a-h8, i6, k-z8, A-B8, C-D6 (- blank a8 & b2 in facsimile) . Collated and apart from blank leaf a8 and leaf b2 complete. Title page skilfully restored; some leaves with dampstains, front hinge slightly weak but holding, otherwise a very good copy. Book is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
