Accompaniments: An interchangeable gilt and horn outer case and shagreen outer protective case

The exceptionally fine repoussé scene on this watch is typical of the superb craftsmanship that was associated with John Ellicott's best made timepieces. Ellicott engaged one of the finest and most celebrated chaser and engravers, Henry Manley, (HM) who re-composed the highly romantic mythological story of Psyche and Cupid.

Henry Manley is recorded as being one of King George II most admired artists, and was known to have commissioned many exceptional pieces during the monarchs reign.

The Inner case of the watch is inscribed, and was once owned by Elizabeth Pattison, the Great Grandmother of the British archaeologist and classical scholar, Talfourd Ely of University College London.
