John F. Kennedy, Original Blood-stained Leather Fragment from Dallas, Texas Limousine

Swatch of blood-stained navy blue leather upholstery removed from JFK's presidential limousine after he was assassinated. The fragment, measuring approximately .625" x .5", is displayed in a small window between a high-quality photo reproduction image of the Dallas, Texas motorcade above, and an explanatory caption below. Displayed within a handsome navy blue mat measuring 11" x 16.125". Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity from University Archives (No. 11014), as well as photocopies of extensive documentation relating to the item's provenance.

On November 22, 1963, 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) was shot in the presidential limousine as he and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994) traveled through downtown Dallas. The presidential limousine, a modified 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible code named SS-100-X, had been lengthened, reinforced, and fitted with special handles and foot rails for Secret Service agents. It also featured a bespoke dark blue leather upholstery manufactured by Hess & Eisenhardt of Cincinnati, Ohio. This leather fragment came from the blood-spattered rear seat.

Following the crime scene investigation, SS-100-X was cleaned and rebuilt from the ground up with special features, like armored plating, bullet-proof windows, and flat-proof tire rims

LBJ rode in this modified limousine until 1967.

Provenance: From F. Vaughn Ferguson, White House Technical Service Representative in charge of the presidential limousine, who assisted the White House upholsterer in removing the leather from the rear seat four days after the assassination and supervised its refurbishing for Lyndon Johnson

The Raleigh De Geer Amyx Collection of Presidential Memorabilia

Dr. John K. Lattimer.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
