John F. Kennedy & Jackie Kennedy Greet Ethiopian Emperor, Vintage Photo from Cecil Stoughton's Personal Collection

A color photo of 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (1929-1994) greeting Emperor Haile Selassie I (1892-1975) upon his arrival at a Washington, D.C. train station on October 1, 1963, from the personal collection of JFK White House photographer Cecil W. Stoughton (1920-2008). The print was apparently produced in the 1960s by Stoughton, and is hand-inscribed "C307-12-63" verso as part of Stoughton's unique numbering and filing system. The double-weight, glossy color photograph was printed on Kodak paper. Expected light surface wear, else near fine. 5" x 5".

Less than two months later, the emperor would return to the United States to attend Kennedy's interment at Arlington National Cemetery on November 25, 1963. The emperor was among the many heads of state and dignitaries representing Ireland, France, Spain, Sweden, Luxembourg, Germany, West Germany, Greece, and the Philippines who witnessed the solemn event.

This photograph can be found in the collection of the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum under the accession number ST-C307-12-63.
