Charcoal portrait and watercolour highlights on paper depicting a blue-eyed man, probably a notable given his outfit. Located in Strasbourg and dated "18 8bre (October) 1839" at the bottom. By the Swiss painter Joseph-Mathias Negelen (1792-1870) , signed at the bottom right. Blackened wooden frame richly decorated with acanthus leaves and title blocks. In fair overall condition; signs of age-related wear, foxing on the whole work. Wooden frame in good condition, some sings of wear and marks, chips on the corners.
