The composer Sir Michael Tippett is best known for the way in which his musical style evolved throughout his life. Maturing into his career late, Tippett only really began to receive praise for his work once in his 30s. Early works show a classically trained care for lyricism, whilst later trips to America brought in the influences of jazz and blues. Perhaps his best known works are the opera The Midsummer Marriage, the oratorio A Child of Our Time and the orchestral Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli.
