6 parts in 2 volumes, 4to (259 x 205mm.), 6 letterpress titles, 190 hand-coloured engraved plates after Knorr and others, contemporary mottled calf, spines gilt, marbled edges, occasional slight spotting, minor marginal staining to the first part, last few plates slightly offset, binding rebacked retaining original spines

A BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED SHELL BOOK. This is a Dutch version of Vergnugen der Augen und des Gemuthes (1757-1773). Dr Martinus Houttuyn not only collaborated on this translation by contributing a large part of the text, but also provided many of the plates by having shells from his own collection painted by Wartenaar.
