Krishna Reddy, "Untitled", Ink and Watercolor on Paper (1925-2018).
A composition of layered ink and watercolor, this work showcases his experimental approach to abstraction. The artwork features an interplay of earthy browns, deep blacks, and soft whites, creating a textured landscape of movement and depth. Delicate swirling strokes contrast with chaotic linear elements, evoking a sense of organic rhythm. Signed in the lower right and dated 1963.
Krishna Reddy (1925-2018) was an influential Indian artist, sculptor, and printmaker known for his pioneering innovations in intaglio printmaking, particularly viscosity printing. Born in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Reddy studied at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan under Nandalal Bose before furthering his education in London and Paris, where he worked closely with celebrated sculptors Henry Moore and Ossip Zadkine. He later joined Atelier 17, a renowned printmaking studio in Paris, under the mentorship of Stanley William Hayter, where he refined his revolutionary viscosity printing technique, which allowed for multicolor printing from a single plate. Reddy's works, characterized by intricate textures, organic forms, and layered compositions, often explored themes of movement, energy, and transformation.
