TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'L'Amérique Dressée pour l'étude de la Géographie, revue et augmentée par Mr. Brion Ingénieur Géographe du Roy, à Paris, chez Desnos, Ingr. Géog. pour les Globes et Spheres, rue St. Jacques au Globe 1764'
A remarkable map of the Americas, North and South, showing ten or more Great Lakes, with a very approximate representation of the north western coast of North America. The claim by other French cartographers of the time of the existence of a Great inland "Sea Of The West" is reflected in the comment "C'est dans cette partie que l'on place la Mer de L'Ouest incertaine." (The uncertain "Sea of the West" is located in this region).

TYPE: Antique eighteenth century copperplate atlas map with original hand colour, and ornate border. The flanking columns of descriptive text were stuck onto the sheet at the time of publication
