99.5 x 124.5cm (39 x 49in.)

His sale, Christie's, London, 21 November 1980, Important English Pictures, lot 15 (sold for £26,400)
From a Private Scottish Collection
Literature:
Bolton Catalogue, no. 73
This provenance was erroneously affiliated with a version of this composition by Thomas Spencer (1700-1793), which sold at Christie's in 2013.
Condition Report:
The canvas appears to be relined and presents a few slight scuffs and abrasions to the edges. UV light reveals slight stretching on the boots of the page, as well as few very slight retouches to the visage. Further infilling is present on the horse, most notably to the front legs, neck and torso. Further scattered, yet minorly applied, infilling is also present in the section of landscape below the horse. Further retouching is visible to the ground in the lower right corner and lower border.
