Signed twice and dated in charcoal, upper right recto, with another offset signature presumably from another study in charcoal, lower left verso. With the artist's printed studio label, verso.We would like to thank Katie Wood Kirchhoff, Ph.D., Associate Curator at Shelburne Museum, for her assistance with cataloguing this lot.Acquired directly from the artist, circa 1970; private collection, New York; thence by descent to current owner, private collection, New York.During his early years as an artist, Lucioni (1900-1988) went by "Louis" instead of his given name, Luigi. This study from life, dated September 26, 1919 and signed with his anglicized name, was completed during his studies in New York at Cooper Union, or the National Academy of Design.
