[ translate ]

Pre-Columbian, Argentina, La Aguada / Aquada culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A wheel-thrown greyware pottery bowl with a flat base, a gradually expanding lower body, tall walls, and a flared rim encircling the deep basin. The exterior of the vessel is embellished with two horizontally bisected registers of incised linear motifs, and the stepped forms created by the lines alternate with smooth areas that somewhat mirror their neighboring incised forms. The highly burnished surfaces have attained a glossy presentation that makes this an attractive example from ancient Argentina! Size: 6.375" W x 3.7" H (16.2 cm x 9.4 cm).

Provenance: private Arte Primitivo, New York, New York, USA; ex-Jean-Eugene Lions collection, Geneva, Switzerland, item #638

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#149979
Condition Report: Minor nicks and abrasions to base, walls, and rim, with light softening to some incised details, areas of fire-darkening to grey surface color, and small areas of pitting, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout, and linear motifs are still visible.
