Lace umbrella with elephant ivory pole (Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797 or Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758) set with Mediterranean coral dots (Corallium Rubrum). The handle and the terminal tip are made of carved coral branches and always in coral are the ends of the slats. Similar items are in the collections of Giorgio Filocamo in Ravello and Enrico Sapio in Ischia; another umbrella carved with grape vine decorations has been published by Tescione and one of a private collection in Trapani was placed in a Sicilian setting by Tartamella. Height 72.5 cm, diameter 45 cm. Total weight 260 gr. Item condition grading: ****good. Ce.S.Ar. Certificate of Antiquity.
