Large Levantine hardstone scarab with Semitic inscription
A large Levantine hardstone scarab with Semitic inscription, c. 1st Millennium BC, the body carved in Egyptianizing style with well-defined legs. The base has been ground flat with an inscription around the outer edges in what appears to be Aramaic. 32 x 25 mm. Well preserved and a rare and interesting piece! Ex collection of Moshe Dayan, Israel; Ex Harvith collection, MI, acquired in the 1970's.
