Large Roman Situla with Hercules Knot
1st-3rd century AD. A bronze situla with bulbous body decorated with slender bands of wheel-cut decoration, the handle with central Herculean knot, terminals with scrolls and open attachment loops; everted rim with raised ridge and two attachment loops to accept the handle. 1.7 kg, 19cm (7 1/2"). Property of a UK gentleman; acquired Bonham's, New Bond Street, London, UK; 28 April 2010, Lot 392; previously with R.W.
