Chinese, Tang Dynasty. The white pigment painted prancing horse standing on three legs with the right leg raised, the head turned to the left with a short cropped mane and open mouth. The saddle painted in faint red pigment on a decorative painted blanket. Approx: h. 24", w. 9.5", d. 23". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Morton & Kathleen Sachs of Louisville, Kentucky, purchased from TK Asian Antiquities (Williamsburg, VA) in 2000 or 2001 for $8,800.
