Large pre-Columbian collection El Salvador
about 300 pieces, mostly Maya, early classical period 300 B.C. to 300 A.D. to post-classical period 900 to 1200 A.D., but probably representing South America besides Central American cultures, collection consisting of: Metates (millstones) and a zoomorphic volcanic stone of gods, numerous ceramic vessels like a large vessel in the shape of a monkey, four-legged bowl with bird representation in tondo, plate in the manner of the usulutan style, bowl with representation of kneeling Maya on the outside as well as a similar one with abstract figurative representation (sitting figures with feather headdress), similar several with glyph painting, one of them with monkey representation, richly painted cup with wickerwork decoration, spherical double-handled vessels with anthropomorphically shaped necks, appliqué vessels, bowl with mask feet, high bowl on feet in the shape of fruits or udders, numerous god figures/statuettes, miniature vessels, stamps, clay beads, stone artefacts, a wooden miniature ritual hand, a terracotta with the facial features of a Peruvian (Chimu?) of God (mask-like eyes). - Altogether approx. 50 vessels and vessel fragments, approx. 170 figures/statuettes/fragments/amulets, approx. 10 stone artefacts and figurative stone works, numerous clay and stone beads uncounted. - Collection collected before 1970 by an emigrated family, brought back to Germany in 1972.
