Late 18th C. Spanish Colonial Wood & Iron Storage Chest

North America, probably Mexico or New Mexico, Spanish Colonial period, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A large wooden chest constructed with several wooden planks protruding tenons that are reinforced with iron brackets. The hinged lid opens to reveal a deep interior cavity that was perhaps used as a storage chest or a traveling container for one's personal effects. The front of the body is adorned with a circular lock plate adorned with an openwork rim, and the entire chest bears relatively smooth surfaces and attractive patina. Size (w/ lid): 14.5" L x 29" W x 14.25" H (36.8 cm x 73.7 cm x 36.2 cm)

Condition Report: Loss to one bottom bracket as indicated by lighter colored area. Original key missing. Minor separation to some slats, with several stable fissures, small losses to periphery of lock plate, loosening to some iron components, and nicks to body and lid. Nice patina throughout.
