This drawing is a fascinating detailed sketch of Rudolf Hausner's key work The Ark of Ulysses from 1948-1951/56. The scene can be seen in the lower right corner. The figure represents one of the two sybils, whose main hair results from the beard of the figure behind it. The motif was also published in a series of prints, for which the present sheet is the model. Inscription on the print: The beard of the head merges into the hair of Sybille.
