Letter by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor, For the Sake of Thousands of Lithuanian Jews - Kovna, 1881.
A letter regarding the sake of thousands of Jews in Lithuania, and the receipt of 2,000 rubles for Lithuanian Jewry.
The tremendous works of the rabbi of Kovna spread to other countries. He worked hard to help the Jews of Lithuania after the fires that destroyed many towns, and also tried to help the Jews of Russia in their great distress following the pogroms and persecutions there. He contacted Jewish leaders around the world, who came to his aid and to the aid of Jews in other countries. He even managed to enlist international pressure to help Russian Jewry.
Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor was known as the rabbi of Kovna and was one of the most renowned Lithuanian rabbis and leaders of Lithuanian Jewry. He was recognized a halachic authority for Diaspora Jewry as a whole and his advice was sought from far and wide.
