Solis Esq at the Grecian Hotel paid Liverpool [Two round rubber stamp impressions:] LIVERPOOL JU24 1848 [Recto:] London 22 June 1848 10 William Square Sir! I have received I have received your kind note And take the liberty to inclose a firm basis to Mr. Leeser which you kindly will forward to him [?In] closing [] I feel thankful to you and should you yourself [thin?] I wish you a pleasant journey and my best compliments to Mr. I. Leeser I remain Sir Yours respectfully D. Winkler NB. by advising Mr. Leeser how to act with the goods, in order that I come to my money I [] be very obliged to you DW [= D. Winkler] Mr. S. Solis Liverpool in haste [Another letter from the Leeser archives sheds light on this:] New York Novembre (sic) 30th 1847 My dear Mr Leeser At last I have obtained the Care of Naidwan ([?] to Mr Ansel by D Winkler of London) from the Custom House and forward the same this day to you address for [?] & for Express. I hope it will reach you in safety The appraisers at Custom &c. have placed the value of the Goods much below Mr Winklers valuation, they making it only £28. besides charges. And the whole amt of expenses, including Duty Bonds Permits &c &c in $43.90/100. The appraiser who valued the Goods says if they cost £41.10.8. they were purchased at enormously high prices. And thinks there must be some mistake in the figures. For contents of the case appear to be principally Razors. but as to there (sic) value or quality I am totally unacquainted. I have no doubt however but that they can be sold I regret that I was compelled to leave here without serving you but having been sent for I had no alternative. I shall probably have to [?] here all the wish. Should you have anything requiring attention here, please address me as heretofore. I hope Mr Cozens and little Ella are well.
