Libyan Desert Glass Libyan Desert Glass Area Great Sand Sea Western Desert, Egypt Weighing nearly 52 grams, this little piece of Libyan Desert Glass is actually not that small. Exhibiting an interesting and unusual shape, this offering of the popular impactite variety has a ‘layered' growth to two primary sections which are partially joined together at one end. The open section between the two-dimensional parts contains a pair of rare holes that were formed by small protrusions joining the two larger segments. This example of tektite is quite visually compelling, with either side being a potential display face. The greenish-yellow "glass" boasts vitreous luster, fine translucency, and irregular shape.
