Lizzy Ansingh (1875-1959), ‘Portrait of Mrs Engelina Dusseau-Reydon’
monogrammed ‘LA’ and dated ‘1909’. The person portrayed was a friend of Lizzy Ansingh and was given this portrait by the artist. Verso: exhibition label Berliner secession 1910 & label with annotation in handwriting by the artist ‘Lizzy Ansingh’ ‘Portrait of Mrs DR’. According to oral tradition, material-technical research has shown that the dress of the sitter was originally red in color, but that this was considered too frivolous at the time and was therefore painted over black.
