Totally unconventional, the Longines Nonius was a completely new idea to fit a chronograph with a curved arm to indicate 1/10 of a second. The present example is a very rare specimen of an already particular model sine it has been manufacture in solid and massive 18k yellow gold. The two-body cushion shaped waterproof case with a screw-down caseback is nicely and finely preserved with no evident signs of wearing. The dial is champagne with applied gold hour markers partially covered in black enamel and is fitted with a so-called "Vernier" scale, an auxiliary device designed to facilitate fine adjustments or measurements on precision instruments, named after its inventor, the French mathematician Pierre Vernier (1580-1637). With the Longines Extract from the Archives confirming case, movement, production and subsequent sale in 1970.
