Lot of 5 Peruvian Spanish Colonial Bronze Tupu Spoons

South America, Peru, Spanish Colonial Period, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A group of five tupus in the form of spoons, each with a long, pin-like handle. Four have decorative, blossom-like bowls with ornamental, flaring rims. The fifth is more simple, with an ovoid bowl and two small perforations above it, perhaps for attaching rings or other decoration. These were made to be worn in pairs to pin a cloak or mantle to the shoulders, and were signs of status for those who wore them. Size of largest: 2.5" W x 11.5" H (6.4 cm x 29.2 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, purchased in Cusco, Peru, in the early 1990s
