Lot of 6 w/ Neolithic & Ancient Chinese Pottery Vessels

East Asia, China, Neolithic period, Majiayao culture, ca. 3300 to 2000 BCE; Warring States period to Han dynasty, ca. 475 BCE to 220 CE; Song Dynasty, ca. 960 to 1279 CE. A fabulous ensemble of six pottery vessels from various Neolithic and ancient Chinese cultures. The first pair are jars from are from Neolithic China and exhibit black-painted geometric motifs of zigzag and horizontal striations. Both of these ancient vessels present circular bases, bulbous bodies, tapered necks, loop handles, and annular flared rims. A third Chinese dish that dates from the Warring States period to the Han dynasty displays a flat base, a squat, almost discoid body, a brief neck, and a circular, flared rim. Boasting a lustrous glaze over a hue of sandy beige, the fourth vessel is from the Chinese Song dynasty and features a circular applied foot and thick walls that expand to a broad, annular rim over a shallow basin. Size of largest: 3.625" W x 5" H (9.2 cm x 12.7 cm)

The last two - one resembling a coin bank with a round base, circular body, and ovoid aperture and the other showing a concave foot, a spherical body, incised shoulder, and an annular, raised rim - are of indeterminate cultures.

Condition Report: Tall Neolithic jar: repaired from two pieces with break line visible and part of rim restored from new material. Short Neolithic jar: missing handle and chips to rim. Warring states to Han dynasty vessel: repaired from at least three pieces with restoration in areas. Song dynasty bowl: foot reattached. Coin bank: intact and excellent. Vessel with incised shoulder: repaired from two pieces with light restoration over break line. All have expected surface wear with nicks and abrasions. Otherwise, all very nice with lovely earthen deposits throughout.
