Lot of 9 Eastern Roman Pottery Oil Lamps

**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Holy Land, Eastern Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. An attractive ensemble of nine mold-formed pottery oil lamps from the Eastern Roman Empire. Four lamps have discoid bodies and wide fill holes. One lamp has a dramatically corseted neck channel and faint Latin script on the shoulder. One lamp has broad semicircles around the shoulder. One redware lamp has a radiating star pattern surrounding the fill hole. One elongated lamp has linear motifs around the peripheries. The largest lamp is discoid, tiered, and covered with intricate stippling and ringlet patterns. Lucite display stands for photography purposes only. Size of largest (tiered body): 3.2" W x 3.5" H (8.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

Condition Report: All items have abrasions and nicks to bases, bodies, wick spouts, and fill hole peripheries, with softening to some finer details, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
