Louis-Philippe Giltwood Overmantel Mirror
Louis-Philippe Giltwood Overmantel Mirror
mid-19th century, in the rococo taste, the ogee surround decorated with scroll-, shell- and strapwork, the molded liner with a sanded border, the corners with molded cabochons framed in scrollwork.
h. 69", w. 47-1/2"
Condition Report: In overall good condition. The surface exhibits minor rubbing. It appears to be partly old gilt with inpainting/regilding. There are shrinkage cracks to the molding edging the mirror plate, with losses to that molding at one lower corner, about 2-1/2" long, and a loss about two-thirds the way up that same side, about 1-1/2" long. The mirror plate appears to be original or of the period. It is generally crisp and clear with some minor imperfections.
