Late 18th C. Italian Oil on Canvas of Sibyl of Arithrea holding a Lamb. Sibyl of Arithrea was an ancient prophetess and presided over the Temple of Apollo in Ionia. She proportedly foretole the coming of Christ thus has a special place in Christian theology. Painting shown measures 25” x 18 3/8”. In an antique & possibly period carved, painted & gilt wood frame – 29 ¼” x 22 3/8”.
Condition
In overall very good condition with the old varnish slightly yellowing.
