Painter of portraits, still lifes, interiors and Impressionist landscapes. He would get famous, mostly due to his masterful portraits. He aimed for the soul that was hiding in his characters. Striking is his commitment towards distinction and dignity, his gradation of light and shadow, his purely palette both tender and sensitive. Mostly painted prominent personalities and bourgeois.
